The Big Sound would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for a 12-month, $21,600.00 Community Building Fund grant that allowed us to deliver our Music and Movement Program to over 240 students in 12 classes at 3 Owen Sound Schools, Alexandra, and East Ridge over the past school year.
This Program delivered musical instruction, social development, and most importantly, fun for students who have faced many challenges during the pandemic. The grant allowed The Big Sound to supply each class with a wide variety of instruments (spoons, guiros, cow bells, pitched percussion, shakers, jingle bells, etc.) and most importantly to hire a professional musician who introduced the students to the instruments, notes, rhythms, time signatures, dynamics, tempos, music styles, movement, and dance.
The Big Sound operates on the evidence-based premise that musical instruction improves a child’s self-confidence, concentration, and motivation. Ultimately, this can translate into greater academic achievement and a healthier, happier life.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded $108 million to 629 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
